First Impressions - Pokemon Snap

4th April 2021

Hey Pokemon Fans. With the recent announcement of the upcoming games and the new Pokemon Snap game getting released at the end of the month, I thought I could share my first impressions.

Pokémon Snap

I didn’t have any experience with the original Pokemon Snap game when I first owned a Nintendo 64 and it wouldn’t be until years later when I bought another N64 at my first convention and I wanted to add the original to my library of games.

I thought the original game was an enjoyable time for what’s a wildlife photography game and I’m interested to see what modern mechanics the new game will bring to the formula. I was already impressed with how gorgeous the game looked visually so I can’t wait to take all sorts of pictures of my favourite Pokemon in high definition.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Going into Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, I knew it was coming at some point since the fans have begged to the heavens for a remake of Generation 4 and now they’ve finally announced it. I will admit that the chibi art style for the overworld kind of threw me for a loop at first, but I am still interested in seeing what’s in store.

I’m particularly curious if they’ll make minor adjustments to the story in some way like Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire did and whether or not the game will continue to use Dynamaxed Pokemon or Mega-Evolutions might return.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Honestly, Pokemon Legends Arceus is the game I’m most excited about. As much as I enjoy the wild areas in Pokemon Sword and Shield, the presentation showed off what looks like a true open-world Pokemon experience.

I’m super excited to see what I can explore and find in Ancient Sinnoh and how the god of all Pokemon, Arceus, will play a part in the game. The frame-rating on the Pokemon models in the overworld was indeed pretty choppy during the presentation, but they have time to fix that before the game releases in Spring next year.

Well, those are my short, honest opinions on the new Pokemon games coming out soon. I hope
you’re as excited about them as I am.

Take care and stay healthy everyone.
